Phew! This guy took long enough! I'm so proud to finally show what I've been working on!
Since I posted my first illustration of the Patched Bear, I received great feedback from many lovely people to help improve on its concept and develop it to become a great project!
The Undead Bear was originally conceived as a random encounter for my TTRPG players, which they did fight. I described it as an absurdly large stitched together dead bear, a formidable foe that was hunting them down. As my players battled against it, it showed signs of damage: large chunks of flesh would hang loosely from a blade strike, the cracking of bones with a swing of a mighty hammer, and entire section of fur catching on fire after taking a magic burning spell. This became a vital part of their experience in that fight. So, I envisioned this souls-like boss fight where the player would receive a visual feedback from the 3D bear model, as its flesh, fat and bones showed damage after they dealt damage to it.
Actually drawing this idea was incredibly complex, as I had to learn the whole anatomy of a bear. Thankfully, there's a myriad of references I found online of animal anatomy, which helped me develop the full picture of my bear. Still, between studying and having to come up with how its bones and muscles had to be warped to shape a monstrous body, I spent a long time on this project. I probably will tone back on how much I want to present on future personal works, as I want to draw more ideas and show more consistency with my posts. I believe I made justice to my original idea, and showed that I am able to make something complex if the project requires it, so I'm happy to let this one go :)
I'd love to hear your opinion on how it turned out :)
Thank you very much for watching, and for reading my journey hahah Hope you'll stay for more cool stuff in the future!
Until then, stay safe!
